Accountable under the law and under God

The purpose of this blog is to draw attention to a particular sexual assault survivor's experience as referenced in the Bob Jones University GRACE Report.

The background information of the report and all official announcements can be found on the investigative team's website: http://netgrace.org/investigation/bob-jones-university/
The final report can be accessed here: http://netgrace.org/wp-content/uploads/Final-Report.pdf

Why highlight this particular survivor's story from the BJU GRACE Report?
  1. Bob Jones University acknowledges the assault took place.
  2. The accused perpetrator was permitted to minimize the details of the assault.
  3. Although the accused perpetrator was expelled after his confession to University authorities, he was later readmitted, allowed to give a public prayer in chapel, graduate, and later return to campus as a representative of a mission board.
  4. According to the survivor, the mission board refused to have the accused perpetrator return to the United States to face criminal charges.
  5. This man, accused by the survivor and having confessed to Bob Jones University, is permitted to remain on a mission field as a pastor, teacher and trusted leader, without those that could be vulnerable knowing of his expulsion from Bob Jones University or that criminal charges await him in the United States.

Testimony of Assault Survivor in the GRACE report begins on page 98. Excerpt below:

Footnotes from testimony excerpt:

The GRACE report gives the name of the mission board: Baptist Pioneer Mission. (http://www.bpmission.org/)

As supporting evidence that Bob Jones University allowed the accused perpetrator of the assault back on campus as an official representative of a mission board, the GRACE report references the BJU Missions Emphasis Week Brochure for 2011, but does not provide it. Here is brochure from that week.

Note the representative from Baptist Pioneer Mission during the 2011 BJU Missions Emphasis Week is named on the fourth page of the program and that only one representative is named. Bob Jones University has not disputed the details of the situation, but has acknowledged them.

Why isn't Baptist Pioneer Mission encouraging this man to return to the United States to face criminal charges? Why is Baptist Pioneer Mission board allowing him to remain in a position of trust where vulnerable young women could be at risk unknowingly?
